August Electronics is a Canadian‑based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider supporting customers from early‑stage prototyping through full‑scale production. As a manufacturing organization, access to accurate and timely operational and financial data is critical to decision‑making.
Although Power BI was already available within the organization, reporting capabilities were not being fully utilized. Many teams depended on a small number of individuals to produce reports, limiting agility and slowing access to insights.
Users lacked confidence in data modeling, report design, and Power BI best practices. As a result, reports varied widely in quality and structure, and dashboards were often difficult to maintain or reuse. Decision‑makers struggled to trust reporting outputs when definitions and calculations were inconsistent.
A practical enablement program was developed to help teams at August Electronics build confidence and consistency in Power BI. Training focused on real business scenarios and emphasized not only how to build reports, but how to design them for clarity, performance, and long‑term use.
The program covered foundational Power BI concepts, data modeling techniques, report and dashboard design principles, and an introduction to DAX. Governance and sharing practices were also addressed to support consistency across teams.
Teams became more self‑sufficient in creating and maintaining reports, reducing reliance on centralized resources. Reporting quality improved, and business leaders gained faster access to reliable, actionable insights.
